Another odd goal defeat, another match where we could only muster 12 players and where we ended up due to injuries playing the last quarter with only 10 men. In addition one of those was injured so in reality we were chasing the game with only 9 fit players.

Although Hamworthy are third in the league the match overall was dominated by the two defences and in reality neither keeper had a lot to do. We showed loads of passion but did not retain the ball at all well in the first half, whereas Hamworthy appeared to want to walk the ball into the net. A more direct approach may well have caused us a lot of problems. Although we started off really strongly and totally dominated the first 5 minutes, after that the game petered out to being a fairly scrappy affair in the first half, with the only real chance falling to Steve Reeves from whose shot their keeper tipped over.

The second half was an improvement from our point of view with better possession although the game had 0~0 written all over it. Unfortunately a defensive error in our left hand corner allowed their midfielder to cross the ball where one of their forwards attempted an overhead kick; it came of his knee and shin and went into the corner of our net. Immediately after, we had to replace an injured player with our only sub and 5 minutes after that with quarter of an hour to go we lost our second player through injury. Whilst treating him another player got injured which had our poor physio (Kath) charging round trying to patch players together. Even so we kept plugging away looking for a deserved equaliser and in truth made more chances in the last 10 minutes than we had made during the first 80 minutes but none of them were converted.

I mentioned before the defence were magnificent throughout with Pete Eyre and Ben Giles in the middle having solid games and Conor Moore at left back putting in an excellent performance. However, the most impressive performance came from John Homer who had a superb 90 minutes. Martin Newbury worked hard in midfield as did the non stop Tristan Dorey, but saying that the whole team yet again put in an excellent shift, it's just that those present were let down by those who were not.
