Report

At last! You wait for a win and to keep a clean sheet and both come along on the same day. Just a shame it wasn't a league match. With so many players cup tied it was a case of trying to locate enough players, which we did with Andy Munson even coming along after working until 2pm. We also welcomed back Gary Martin for his first competitive game of the season and Tom Hasluck back from a six week layoff with injury.

The pitch was in a poor state, very tacky and with a slope and you could see why it was called off last week. In truth it was only just about playable this week.

Lytchett are a Dorset Division 1 team and currently occupy bottom place, so you had two teams looking for their first win of the season. We totally dominated the first half and at half time I asked the players how we were only one up. It could easily and should have been a lot more, but the final ball was not good enough. Even in the conditions we passed the ball around well using the width and got round the back of their defence on numerous occasions.

Our goal was a superb solo effort though with Matt Newbury playing central midfield picking the ball up just in their half, running and beating three defenders before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box right in the bottom corner.

Playing up the hill in the second half Lytchett came into the game more, however in the whole 90 minutes they only had one attempt at goal. We must have had forty! We scored three times but all were ruled out for either offside or fouls.

When they did attack our back four were superb and showed experience in winning the ball back and setting us off on another attack.

All in all a confidence winning match, where the whole team put in a good performance, I just can't believe it remained 1 ~ 0.
