Match Report Redlands Rebels vs Verwood Town 01-Dec-19

DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2019
REDLANDS REBELS 6 VERWOOD TOWN LADIES 2

Playing away in Weymouth today on a cold, baltic but for once dry afternoon.

Redlands soon had their tails up with 2 early goals to the good following quick breaks. The first a lucky deflection falling the way of their striker and the other from a corner not cleared quickly enough.

Verwood composed themselves and with grit and determination were on the come back. Some close play and strength going forward saw the ball fall at the feet of Cleo for her debut come back this season. Pulled back the trusted left foot and a top bins shit whipped into the far side beating their keeper saw spirits lift. A similar second chance 4 minutes later saw the teams draw level with another classy strike beating the keeper to her right. The opposition rattled by the come back and saw some, completely unecessary nasty tackles stirring reactions. That aside the game remained level until half time.

Half time 2-2

2nd half The first ten minutes were gonna prove a turning point with the Verwood defensive line difficult for the Redlands attack to penetrate. Battles continued all over the field and for persistent spiteful fouls a Redlands player was awarded a Yellow Card.

Both teams played for the win and Redlands won the hand by some clinical through balls and relying on the paced runs from behind slotting the ball passed the gk twice more. Redlands awarded a baffling penalty for their 5th and one that VAR would have been needed to work out why.

Redlands slotted home their 6th at the dying end of the game to take the 3 points.

Full Time 6-2

Small gains each week from the ladies and a pleasing attitude fighting to the last kick. Passion, pride and determination.

Focus now for the 2 remaining games before the Christmas break.
