Match Report Verwood Town vs Petersfield Town 10-Nov-18

SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2018
VERWOOD TOWN 2 LAVERSTOCK & FORD 2

It took two penalties to earn a point. We had the higher percentage of play but couldn’t put the ball in the net.

> The opening minutes had the hallmark of a good performance and three points coming our way. At the refs final whistle we suffered the disappointment of knowing we could have put the game to bed had we had the finishing touch.

Eaton excelled. In the first minute he had rounded his marker to cross into the box. Davies collected far side and a half volley was punched out by the keeper. Dyer followed in to shoot but bodies blocked his effort. 2 minutes later a Davies bullet was punched clear. Nicholson this time connected but yet again the keeper saved on the line.

L&F countered. A good move down their left and a low cross was effectively dealt with by a Gajic boot. Back it came, it was Johnston climbing high to head clear.

Half way through the half Tierney took care of a couple of corners and Johnston again won the high balls.

Kimber was on top form showing his defensive qualities were better than his opponents attacking skills.

Then a L&F break. 28 minutes and a long clearance caught us out 0-1.

5 minutes later we responded with a good piece of football. Evans on to Eaton on to Davies and a sliding tackle took out Davies before he could score but up stepped Gajic to put the penalty to bed. 1-1.

Half Time 1-1

46 minutes and Guthrie almost put us ahead but the keeper spread and cleared. A minute later a Guthrie, Eaton combination put Davies through but yet again the shot went down the keeper’s throat.

Dyer and Richardson held the middle of the park admirably. L&F answer was to go more route one. Johnston and Gajic were superb in blocking entry to the area but always comfortable knowing the in form Tierney was in support.

On 64 minutes Charlie Heggan came on for George Richardson. Dyer and Davies worked the left flank. A deep cross and five minutes later another long ball wasn’t covered and a runner went through to put L&F ahead. 1-2.

We had several attempts to score but each time suffered in watching the ball either go wide or booted clear.

On 82 minutes though Guthrie sped through the L&F defence to be dropped in the box. Up stepped Gajic to claim his second penalty of the game, 2-2.

90+2 minutes and we gave away a penalty. Tierney made a brilliant save palming the ball round the post. In came an inswinger. Up went Johnston and the ball fell to Davies. 20 yards later Davies put the ball into L&F box to win a corner. Gajic headed wide.

Result 2-2.
