Match Report Verwood Town vs US Portsmouth 27-Oct-18
SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2018
VERWOOD TOWN 0 UNITED SERVICES PORTSMOUTH 6
Chalk and cheese would be an apt comparison in our performances against Downton and USP.
Our USP effort was worse than listening to George Richardson’s pre match choice of ‘music’.
We had a good five minutes and then an abysmal 85 as USP strolled to 3 points.
2 minutes into the game, Gajic won a header on the edge of the box. Tierney punched away a corner a minute later and then we sparked as Guthrie chipped a delightful ball over the backs for Kimber to run on to. The keeper was out quickly to boot clear.
A couple of minutes later it was Guthrie again shooting over the bar. Kimber went free shortly after after to hit a grubber at the keeper.
That was it. Game over. 12 minutes a cross from USP left went unchallenged and a header made it 0-1.
2 minutes later they must have brought Moses on. We parted like the Red Sea to give space and time. A simple run on goal with Tierney stranded,.. 0-2.
26 minutes had Tierney holding a shot on the line. We had more holes than a colander.
On 36 minutes a free kick went unchallenged but luckily it went inches past the post.
Half Time 0-2
The ref decided Charlie Heggan needed a holiday so gave him a straight red for what many judged to be a good tackle. Down to 10 men with only 39 minutes to go !!
We looked then like the thin red line. Head blocked a shot on the edge of the box. Gajic raced to his right to cut out a long line ball. Russ Dyer had another Diazepam. It was real backs to the wall stuff.
USP proved to be too much on the day. They looked fitter than us and more organized between themselves.
60 minutes a corner. Typical of the days play we allowed it to go unchallenged, 0-3.
63 minutes Eaton came on for a yellow carded Kimber. 75 minutes Cowland came on for Richardson.
77 minutes a long ball down USP right flank soared over Carkeet for a runner to send in a low cross. 0-4.
2 minutes later Moses applied his staff again and we opened up in the middle for a runner to coast through and make it 0-5.
90+2 and a repeat performance. No challenges and we allowed yet another unmarked runner to drift through and chip the ball past Tierney. 0-6.!!!!!!!
